Objective To investigate the relationship between postoperative pulmonary complications in patients with esophageal cancer and single-lumen endotracheal intubation. Methods The clinical and pathological data of 80 esophageal cancer patients who were treated from February 2010 to October 2013 were retrospectively analyzed, and the complications of tracheal intubation leading to pulmonary complications were summarized. Results Among the 80 patients, 36 patients underwent single lumen endotracheal intubation and 7 patients had pulmonary complications, accounting for 19.4%. Forty-four patients underwent double-lumen endotracheal intubation and 23 patients had pulmonary complications, accounting for 52.7% of the total. The incidence of pulmonary complications in single-chamber group was significantly lower than that in double-chamber group (P <0.05). Conclusion For patients with esophageal cancer, postoperative tracheal intubation should be done to prevent the complications, the possibility of using single-lumen endotracheal pulmonary complications less.
