Japan Central Electric Power Company and Hitachi, Toshiba and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to co-operate in the development of 40-inch turbine blades using titanium alloy materials in order to improve the thermal efficiency of thermal power plants. At present, all three companies have completed the manufacture of blades and are conducting various analyzes and will carry out the rotation load test under the actual operating conditions in February 1987. This research and development work is scheduled to end in March 1987 and the turbine’s long blade is made of titanium alloy, the first of its kind in the world. Allegedly, if practical, the thermal efficiency is about 1.5% (relative) higher than that of the latest thermal power unit, and each unit can save 2 to 3 fuel costs per year
