’96中国戏剧交流演出于8月下旬在北京举行,由于香港、台湾的剧团首次参演,使得这次交流活动增添了新意。确切地说,这是一次话剧汇演,没有戏曲演出。参演剧目绝大部分是近二三年的舞台作品,从中可以窥见中国话剧现状一斑。在话剧多年的困顿中,话剧工作者仍然在苦熬追求,并且作出了成绩,诚可钦佩。这里就部分剧目谈些观感。这次广东参演两个戏:佛山话剧团的《新居》和广东话剧院实验剧团的《火红木棉花》。二剧皆为新作,体现出广东话剧界和文化领导部门在时代巨变中建设精神文明的强烈责任感。《新居》的3位作者陈初华、杨粤生、李巨龙是从事基层文化工作的同志,他们就生活在火热的现实生活中,珠江三角洲农村的急剧变化,人际关系及伦理道德的改变,引起他们的思考,于是酝育形成了一个非常具有现实意义的主题:生活富裕了,人怎么办?金钱万能,它能够成为继续创造财富的资本,也可使人道德沦丧走向毁灭。剧本把故事情节安排在一个家庭里,通过父子、兄弟间的冲突去展现火辣辣的生活内容和矛盾斗争。父亲根叔(吴元标饰)是一家之长,喜迁新居后,眼看着全家合股办的服装厂由于大儿子
