每年有成千上万人死于失血过多,美国红十字会研制的新型止血剂也许能拯救他们。止血剂呈泡沫、凝胶、或是喷雾状,将其涂在伤口上,它能在伤口处迅速形成比人体自然生成的硬10倍的血痂。止血剂的主要成分是凝血酶蛋白和纤维蛋白素,它们在形成血块时自然融入其中。止血绷带则是将经过提纯和浓缩的这两种蛋白质均匀地涂在一种织物上,这种织物的材料与可溶解的手术线一样。因此,蛋白质可以迅速与伤口结合,并形成一个看不见的网,阻止继续流血。

Thousands die each year from excessive blood loss, and the new hemostatic agents developed by the American Red Cross may save them. The hemostatic agent is in the form of a foam, a gel, or a spray, which is applied to the wound and rapidly forms a blood scab that is 10 times harder than the body’s natural formation at the wound. The major components of hemostatic agents are thrombin and fibrin, which naturally blend in as they form blood clots. A hemostatic bandage, on the other hand, is the uniform application of both purified and concentrated proteins onto a fabric of the same material as a dissolvable surgical wire. Therefore, the protein quickly binds to the wound and forms an invisible net, preventing further bleeding.
