In 1875, a “Yun Yang” incident took place between Japan and North Korea. Afterwards, North Korea was forced to sign the Treaty of Ganghwa Island, the first unequal treaty in modern history, with Japan in the following year. In 1882, the DPRK and the United States signed the Treaty of Trade and Commerce. After a series of unequal treaties was signed, North Korea was forced to open its ports of influence to the Western powers under immature conditions. Just two months after the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Trade with the DPRK and the United States, the Junwu armed conflict broke out in North Korea and another coup broke out in the latter two years
