鲁迅一生赠书无数,且人数之多,范围之广,在同时代大师中可谓独树一帜。1923年冬,鲁迅将新出版的《中国小说史略》赠给新婚燕尔的章廷谦,并在扉页题词:“请你,从情人的拥抱里,暂时汇出一只手来,接受这干燥无味的《中国小说史略》,我所敬爱的‘一撮毛’哥哥呀!”其充满了俏皮与戏谑,寄托了对青年人的希望。1924年5月15日,鲁迅日记载:“下午访常维钧,以其将于十八日结婚,致《太平乐府》一部为贺。”这是鲁迅前一天在商务印书馆特意买下,作为新婚贺礼赠给常维钧的。
