The Middle / Upper Devonian Global Stratigraphic Profile and Point (GSSP) has been formally identified on Section E of the Col du Puech de La Suque, southeast of Noire, France. In February 1987, the International Union of Landscaping (IUGS) recognized The resolution of the Devonian Stratigraphic Branch. In 1982, the Devonian Strata Association agreed to use the lower limit of the conodont Polygnathus as ymmetricus subsurface zone and the Ancyrodella rotundiloba as the Middle / Upper Devonian boundary. It is both P.asymmetricus It is also the lower boundary of the Fras Stratosphere and the Devonian / Middle Devonian boundary, and also agreed that the stratigraphic section should be selected in the deep-sea sequence to facilitate global comparison.
