The National Bureau of Standards (NBS), assisted by the Electronics Industry Association, has guided the comparison of measurements among laboratories. The participating units include the National Bureau of Standards and nine optical fiber and optical fiber manufacturing plants, using four gradient optical fibers of 2,2,2 and 0.9km in length. At 850 nm wavelength attenuation measurements, both beam optics and mode filtering were used to achieve confined injection conditions with standard deviations of 0.24, 0.12, 0.12 and 0.43 dB / km with a total average of 0.23 dB / km. The results obtained for the optical fibers with small mode attenuation difference (DMA) are consistent. At 900 nm wavelength, the average standard deviation of -3 dB bandwidth, as measured from the time-domain data, gives a 12% standard deviation and the higher-frequency portion of the frequency response is less consistent.
