丁玲是中国现代文学史上一位成就极高的女性作家,她的作品风格多样,主题深刻。她在创作初期塑造了一系列性格鲜明的女性形象后,为适应革命的需要和当时的文学创作风潮写了一些“革命加恋爱”模式的小说,这些小说的出现补充了当时文坛的小说创作,更在新的高度上展现了女性群体在大革命的时代背景下的际遇。但是由于丁玲个人经历的欠缺,她的“革命加恋爱”小说在对“革命”这一时代主题的描写上显得单薄而肤浅,在其作品中“革命”所代表的时代内涵更多的表现为对理想的追求和对被束缚的独立的救赎。以“五四精神”来写革命是丁玲创作的“革命加恋爱”小说模式的特点,这是丁玲为其革命体验缺失的弥补,在其后来创作《水》、《田家冲》等作品中,就因为过度的追求“革命”缺少这种对体验的弥补,而丧失了其文学作品的艺术性。
