Proliferation of normal animal cells is a controlled process, whereas malignant cells can grow uncontrollably. New discoveries in the relationship between peptide growth factors, oncogenes and oncoproteins help elucidate these processes. Based on these findings, this paper proposes the hypothesis of regulating cell proliferation through two major classes of substances that promote cell growth and inhibit cell growth. The available experimental results initially confirm the rationality of the hypothesis, which indicates that some experiments may be designed to find unknown substances that regulate cell proliferation. The hypothesis put forward for the treatment of cancer provides a new way.
