After the outbreak of the Pacific War, the Japanese aggressively invaded Southeast Asia and declared that the aim was to liberate the Asian nation and expel British and American imperialism in order to establish the “Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Circle.” At that time, the situation in India was extremely complicated. The British government did not recognize India’s independence. Therefore, the Indian National Congress took an uncooperative attitude toward Britain. Many politicians in India advocated “pro-Japanese anti-British.” In order to further unite the United Kingdom and India in fighting the Japanese aggressors and persuading the United Kingdom to allow Indian autonomy, and hope India can join the anti-Fascist front, Chiang Kai-shek together with Soong Mei-ling decided to visit the then British colonial India.
