“On the island of Pine Tree, Minnesota, lying on a hammock at William Duffy Farm” is the masterpiece of the United States “deep image ” on behalf of the poet James Wright. The absurd and abstract ending of the poem “I wasted my life” has been the focus of academic controversy. In fact, the sigh of life of the poet melts into the historical trajectory of material life, artistic life and emotional life. On the other hand, when we understand Wright’s growth process, the formation and transformation of artistic style, and the strong sense of homeland, we can fully understand the meaning of the poem and the intention of ending sentence in essence.
