Objective To investigate the effects of manganese on the frequencies of micronuclei and sister chromatid exchange (SCE) in normal human peripheral blood lymphocytes. Methods The human peripheral blood lymphocytes cultured in vitro were treated with different concentrations of manganese sulfate solution (manganese concentration in culture medium: 0.05,0.15,0.25,0.75,1.50μg / ml), and observed the change of micronucleus rate and SCE frequency With saline as a control. Results Compared with the control group, the micronucleus rate and SCE frequency did not change significantly (P> 0.05) when the manganese dose was less than 0.25μg / ml. The micronucleus rate and SCE frequency Were significantly higher than the control group (P <0.01), and the dose-response relationship. Conclusion Low dose of 0.25μg / ml of manganese is more safe for cytogenetic substances, and high dose of 0.75μg / ml of manganese can cause different types of DNA damage.
