燕京大学是美国人办的学校,而其他大学则由于直接处于国民党反动政府的高压下,学生的活动受到种种干扰和镇压,学生很容易被逮捕和监禁。燕大的外国教授多数能明辨是非,秉彰正义,同当时普通美国人一样,同情中国人民的抗日斗争,反对日本侵占中国领土。燕大这种比较宽松的政治环境使学生的抗日思想得以较自由地抒发。
Yanjing University is a school run by the Americans, while other universities are under the high pressure of the Kuomintang reactionary government. Students’ activities are subjected to various kinds of interference and repression. Students are easily arrested and imprisoned. Most foreign professors in Yan Tai can tell right and wrong and uphold justice just as the ordinary Americans did at that time, sympathizing with the Chinese people’s anti-Japanese struggle and opposing Japan’s occupation of Chinese territory. Yan this more relaxed political environment so that students can more freely express their anti-Japanese ideas.
