在迎接党的十六大召开的日子,国内电视、报纸、杂志、网络等各种传媒齐动手,纷纷推出各种成就性报道,展示从十三届四中全会以来的十三年内,我们国家所取得的成就。其中,由中央电视台推出的《走向辉煌》50集大型系列报道独树一帜,获得了业内人士和观众的一致好评。报道成就的最常见的手法,是拿出一堆数据,或者罗列一些现象,进行纵向和横向的比较,然后得出结论。但是,这样的报道,往往缺少历史的高度,容易陷入“数字出成绩”的怪圈,尤其在对抽象成就,如思想成就和理论成果的报道上,用大量的数据论述,多少会显得牵强,说服力不强。而《走向辉煌——迎接十六大特别报道》的策划和制作者们显然意识到了这一点,并且有意避免程式化的常规报道
