Socio-economic Content of Export Trade in Hunan’s Migu Valley Since the 16th century, Chinese literati began to express their opinion that “Hubei and Hunan are among the major rice producers in China.” In contemporary academia, about 30 years ago, Abe Takeo, in his study of the food supply and demand in the Yong-Zheng dynasty (1723-1735), emphasized the importance of Hunan’s rice production to long-distance trafficking. A more recent study of the country’s food distribution has confirmed this important significance of the province’s food exports. The output of these outputs is estimated at 2 to 10 million annually, enough to supply at least 1 million people (if not millions
