From Unix to Linux With the discovery of the New World of the Internet, the birth of Linux came at a time when it became another epoch-making software product after Unix. As a full-featured, fully open, freely reissued Unix running on a PC, Linux is now seen as a powerful contender for Windows NT. In early 1998, SCO sent a letter to its large user base blaming instability and unprofessional products such as Linux and FreeBSD, but SCO is now rolling out 64-bit and 32-bit SCO Linux. For Linux creator Linux Torvalds, it shows that the open source software development model represented by Linux is gradually recognized by more and more mainstream vendors (the following content is sorted according to the order of presentation).
