新时期以来的美术事业,在改革开放的形势下,取得空前的发展。解放思想,探索创新,有不少值得珍视的成果。整体规模和艺术质量方面有了普遍的提高,伴随着全社会推进社会主义精神文明建设的热潮,涌现大批人才,出现不少思想性艺术性结合得较好的优秀作品。创作思想十分活跃,美术家的创作心态生机勃勃,纵横比较,十一届三中全会以来,堪称艺术发展的最佳时期,这是众多美术家亲身感受到的共识。雄辩地证明党的文艺方针政策的正确,新时期社会环境的优越。在国际文化交流中,具有民族特色的中国美术,引起世界的瞩目和赞赏。同时,也应当看到,美术界并不是风平浪静的,干扰和斗争,时起时伏,几起几落,资产阶级自由化思潮不同程度地波及美术界,有些问题是相当严重的。
