Olivine is the main mineral component of the upper mantle, and although it does not contain H in its ideal chemical formula, lattice defects can still contain 10-6 “water”. Despite their low content, these structural waters have a significant effect on the melting behavior of minerals (and hence rock systems), their rheological characteristics, and their electrical and thermal conductivities. Therefore, studying the distribution and activity of H in olivine is an important part of understanding the process of geodynamics and one of the hot topics in recent years.
