Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of peroxisome proliferator - activated receptor α (PPARα) and coronary heart disease (CHD) in lymphocytes. Methods Sixty-six patients with coronary heart disease diagnosed by coronary angiography were selected, including 19 patients with stable angina (SAP), 25 patients with unstable angina (UAP) and 22 patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Another 23 patients with normal coronary angiography were selected as control group, and the levels of PPAR-α in lymphocytes were measured by ELISA. Results The expression of PPAR-α in patients with coronary heart disease was significantly lower than that in patients without coronary heart disease (37.97 ± 12.98,57.53 ± 12.87, P <0.01). The levels of PPAR-α in patients with different types of coronary heart disease were: AM .05 ± 8.28) 0.05). Conclusions The expression of PPAR-α in peripheral blood lymphocytes of patients with coronary heart disease is down-regulated. The expression of PPAR-α further decreases with the progression of CHD. PPAR-α may be involved in the development of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) Related to the instability.
