Transabdominal perineal resection of the lower rectal tumor and other parts of the rectal tumor have a higher rate of marginalization. Correct surgical procedures to reduce marginal rates of reliance depend on highly accurate images used to determine the resection plane. This article describes an accurate assessment technique for MRI of low rectal tumors and a new staging system. Radiologists can use this system to determine a surgically resected, tumor-free surface for patients with low-grade rectal tumors.
