过去30年,因大幅精减成本,最后却下场凄惨的企业屡见不鲜。最有名的要算是艾尔所领导的美国家庭用品公司,最后以申请破产保护收场;近年的AT&T、福特汽车与美国航空等企业,尽管历经激烈删减成本的手段,现今的股价仍比5年前更低。另外一种情况也显示,企业进行裁员或提出看似无害的自愿提早退休方案,都会严重影响留下员工的士气与生产力。如果精减成本并未达到企业预期目的,我们能从这许多历史经验中获取什么样的教训呢?请记住下面三点:
Over the past 30 years, due to substantial cost reduction, the last but miserable end of the business are not uncommon. The other case also shows that companies that lay off their employees or propose seemingly innocent voluntary early retirement schemes will seriously affect the morale and productivity of their employees. What lessons can we learn from these many historical experiences if the cost reduction does not meet our expectations? Remember the following three points:
