Objective To investigate the differences between expected and actual pain in delivery of caesarean section and natural childbirth and to quantify the difference between expected and actual conditions so that pregnant women can choose the mode of delivery rationally and improve the analgesic effect of labor. Methods The VAS or NRS method was used to determine the expected and actual pain values of pain during caesarean section and spontaneous labor in our hospital from November 2011 to January 2012. Results The pain value of recall on the first day after cesarean section was higher than the expected value and the pain value of recall on the 42nd day. The expectation value of labor pain during active selection of caesarean section had the biggest difference with the actual experience, but lower than the pain value of spontaneous delivery. CONCLUSIONS: The expected pain value of caesarean section in taking the initiative to choose a caesarean section is too low. The medical staff are required to do postoperative analgesia and publicity to encourage natural childbirth.
