王蒙作为元四家之一,他之所以能够载入画史,为后世称道,是因为他在山水画艺术上超越前人和同时代人的地方。他用独特的笔墨和构图形式结合元代特殊的时代背景创立了解索法、牛毛皴法,开创了密体山水新格,为中国山水画再添一格独具特色的形式美。王蒙的山水画苍茫深秀,风格多变,在元四家中技法也最为丰富多样,作品达到了“繁”的极致,明代董其昌称王蒙:“元季当为第一”。他笔墨的洒脱与画风的超脱都与他较高的艺术修养息息相关,家学背景的熏陶加上个人的天分与勤奋努力造就了他在艺术上的突出成就。
