Sulfuric acid is an important raw material for fertilizers, inorganic salts, and synthetic fibers, and is also used in fields such as petroleum, explosives, smelting, and bleaching. There are more than 500,000 sulphuric acid producers in China, with an annual production capacity of 23.0 million tons or more, mainly in Jiangsu, Sichuan, Hubei, Liaoning, and Guangdong provinces. In 1 999, the output of sulfuric acid in China reached 22.5 million tons. It is mainly used for chemical fertilizers, especially for production of phosphate compound fertilizers and chemical fertilizers.
