This book introduces the latest knowledge of mineral surfaces and dispersion chemistry. The authors have successfully used the examples in the geology and soil science literature to illustrate the theory of colloids so that both graduate students and senior researchers are interested. The introduction introduces the basic concepts of colloid and silicate chemistry. Although some examples are geologically, most apply to the soil system. Subsequent chapters discuss surface physicochemical properties, aqueous solutions and suspensions, epi-films of rocks and minerals, and kinetics of colloidal solutions. The last four chapters are colloidal geochemistry of silica, colloidal geochemistry of clay minerals, interactions among solid particles dispersed in colloidal systems, and rheology and adhesion of colloidal systems
