This paper examines the application of the deep-hole mining method in the mining of thin veins less than 2 m thick in Canada. Although this method has been in use for more than a decade, it is still at a pilot stage and there is a need for field testing of its application under new mining operations or under different geological conditions. In essence, this is a safer method than other thin-bed mining methods currently used. This article describes the main operating parameters of some of the mines recently surveyed. The guidelines for the availability of such mining laws have been identified and the problems encountered have been investigated. The conclusion is that the deep-hole mining method used for the exploitation of thin veins is a viable and promising modern mining method and that the novel crushing and blasting research contributes to further improve the usability of this method.
