《伊江汇览》的成书时间为乾隆四十一年,而非目前所认定的乾隆四十年。作者格琫额于乾隆三十年以佐领职衔来新疆,先后任伊犁惠远城满营佐领、协领,在伊期间,为伊犁将军差委多项工作,四十一年授为副都统,升任库尔喀喇乌苏领队大臣,后调任塔尔巴哈台领队大臣,五十二年,任和阗办事大臣兼领队大臣,任内因向当地伯克贪索财物被革职拿问,五十四年二月在和阗正法示众。
