INTRODUCTIONrnMesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), heterogeneous primitive cells that were originally discovered in the adult bone marrow stroma, possess self-renewal and multidifferentiation potential and are critical for maintaining homeostasis in multiple tissues/organs.1 Understanding the regulatory mechanisms of MSC behaviors under physiological and pathological conditions represents a fundamental scientific issue with implications for deciphering disease pathogenesis and establishing appropriate stem cell-based therapeutics.
