好的砚台一定要配匣。古人说“砚无床,不称王”。一方佳砚必须配制好匣。砚匣要与砚的形体和谐统一,要用与砚相称的木料,做工要好,这样才具有观赏价值和坚固的实用性,起到对砚的保护、映衬作用。砚的使用,主要是磨墨。使用新墨时,因有胶性和棱角,故不可重磨。研墨的时候要画大圆,要慢慢画,且不要总集中在一个区域,以防伤砚面。研墨之后,即须将墨取出,不要一直放着,否则墨与砚胶黏难脱,易损砚面。
