Formerly known as Qingyi Park, the Summer Palace was first built in the 15th year of Qianlong (1750) in the Qing Dynasty and was destroyed by British and French troops during the Second Opium War in 1860. It was rebuilt in 1886 and covers an area of more than 290 hectares.
