俞叔迟先生是我最景仰的学者之一,他的逝世是我国语言学界的一大损失。我和俞先生相识是在1952年中国科学院语言研究所成立不久的时候,那时俞先生在语言所兼任副研究员,我在语言所任助理员。由于俞先生平易近人,他又和语言所的周定一、陈士林先生曾在北大同班上学,所以我和俞先生一见如故。每次见面时,俞先生常发表他对汉语语法的高见。给我印象最深刻的是俞先生认为汉语假设关系的偏正复句经常以简化形式出现。他举的例
Yu Shu-Chi is one of my most admired scholars, his death is a big loss to our linguistic community. I met Mr. Yu in 1952 when the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Languages was established. At that time, Mr. Yu was an adjunct researcher in language and I was a language assistant. As Mr. Yu approachable, he and the language of Zhou Dingyi, Mr. Chen Shilin had the same class in Peking University, so I and Yu see it.
