我国金属矿地球物理勘探(简称物探)是1949年以后才发展起来的,已建立起一支从航空、地面到地下数万人的金属矿物探专业队伍,掌握并运用着世界上已有的绝大多数物探方法,在区域调查、普查及勘探各个阶段,发挥着不同的作用。在找铁矿方面取得了显著的效果,近年来找到的铁矿,有80%是物探发现的。在找铜、铅、锌等有色金属方面也取得较好的效果,三十年来,发现有价值的矿床100多处。
