According to German newspapers, Swedish Ericsson plans to more than double its mobile phone production capacity by the end of the century. According to a spokesman for the company, Ericsson, Nokia of Finland and Motorola of the United States together make up 60% of the world’s mobile phone market. In 1996, the sales volume of mobile phones in the world was about 65 million units, of which Ericsson accounted for about 9 million units. In 1997 the company will increase sales of about 20 million units. The company estimates that the world demand for mobile phones will increase from about 100 million units a year to 300 million units in the next three years.
