Five years ago, when I met with John Hutton (He Liqiang), the former chairman of the U.S.-China Relations Committee (hereinafter referred to as the “Committee”), I just met with U.S. President Bush’s visit to China and the Sino-U.S. Shanghai Joint Communique The 30th anniversary of the publication of the communique; and not long ago, when I was sitting with the current Steven Ollens, chairman of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, television news was scrolling through the opening of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. The repetition of such an important event as background is a coincidence that history has inadvertently occurred.
