都德的《柏林之围》作为爱国主义名篇在我国出现以来。它的主人公儒夫上校也长期被逻辑地戴上了“爱国主义”的“悲壮的英雄”的桂冠。直到近来,才有不少文章对此提出不同的看法,有的观点甚至截然相反。争论本身说明儒夫上校这个活生生的人乃是一个内涵丰富的典型。过去模式化的评语会损害这个形象。刘再复在《论人物性格的模糊性与明确性》一文中说:“形象和感情如果成为一种确定的模式。形象特征一目了然……那么,这种形象一定是一种肤浅的、苍白的形象。”儒夫上校不是那种“特征一目了然”的形象,他的性格中具有某些复杂的、难以确定的因素。分析这些复杂的因素,不仅有助于正确揭示小说的主题,而且可以在人物形象的创造上得到有益的启发。

Analyzing these complex factors not only helps to reveal the correct theme of the novel correctly, but also can be usefully inspired by the creation of characters.
