巩膜炎常与类风湿关节炎有关,与结节样多动脉炎、结节病、梅毒、书格勒肉芽肿、红斑狼疮及带状疱疹也有关连,其他疾病如强直性脊柱炎、毕夏氏病、皮肌炎、多发性软骨炎及颞动脉炎的病人中,也有描述巩膜炎的发病。在巩膜炎病人中这些病的发病率约为50％。在上巩膜炎则为10％。以往25年间,英美文献尚无报告与巩膜炎或上巩膜炎有关的颞动脉炎病例。1949年Bruce
