From February to August 1999, Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Technology Center, Shaanxi Archeology Engineering Association and Qianling Museum, in order to cooperate with the exploration mission of Qianling underground palace in the Tang Dynasty, conducted a ground-supported archeological survey of the central area of Qianling. The survey mainly used the topography and the local geological structure to conduct an archeological observation of the Lingtung area. During the investigation, some new man-made landforms related to Qianling’s original architecture were discovered. In particular, the discovery of Qianling ruins and Qianling west of a large area of artificial gravel accumulation and so on. Such discoveries have given us a new understanding of the overall layout and planning of the imperial tombs in the Tang Dynasty.
