美国工科院校中,材料学科的学习计划名目繁多,内容也有较大的差别。据Engineering Education介绍的206所工科院校,其中设有有关材料科学、材料工程等教学计划的学校达75所。这些学校共采用了26种不同的名称,最常见的有以下六种:(1)材料科学(Materials Science)——7所;(2)材料科学与工程(Materials Science and Engineering)——10所;(3)冶金与材料科学(Metallurgy and Materials Science)——8所;(4)材料工程(Materials Engineering)——10所;(5)冶金工程(Metallurgy Engineering)——14所;(6)陶瓷工程(Ceramic Engineering)——6所。75所院校中的34所均把材料学科与冶金或冶金工程联系了起来,这说明材料科学与工程渊源于冶金和金属材料学科。从设置的学位计划(Program)来分可分作三类:(1)材料科学类——以现代物理或化学的基础理论与
Among the American engineering colleges and universities, there are many study programs in material sciences and their contents are quite different. According to Engineering Education introduced by the engineering colleges and universities 206, which has materials science, materials engineering and other teaching programs of the school reached 75.
