邯郸之名始见于公元前546年《春秋》·谷梁传》。邯是山名,单是山脉尽头的意思,城郭从邑,故名邯郸,邯郸已有两千五百多年历史,早在春秋后期,它已是黄河北岸一个经济中心,从赵敬侯定都邯郸至汉魏之际,成为华北的政治、经济、文化中心之一.据历史学家推算,当时赵国人口约有三百万至五百万,而邯郸城有十万至十五万人,当时邯郸一带物产丰富,“民则人给家足,都鄙廪庾尽满,府库余货财”。
