JameA, a plant physiologist at the USDA’s Center for Agricultural Research, found that there was also a midday break in the photosynthesis of maize on warm, dry afternoon. Formerly found only in C_3 plants such as soybean and wheat, with CO_2 as the limiting factor, found in C_4 plant corn. C_3, C_4 plants follow different photosynthetic pathways.
