刘小东的作品近年来在拍卖市场屡创神话,继2006年《三峡新移民》拍出2200万元,创中国当代艺术品最高价之后,2008年《温床No.1》又拍出了5712万元。在他的画面中没有激烈的情绪,留存的是荒诞、讥讽和黑色幽默。在侯孝贤的团队参与到《金城小子》的拍摄之前,刘小东已经和大陆第六代导演有过多次合作。2006年他邀请贾樟柯到三峡和泰国记录自己的写生过程,由此而诞生的纪录片《东》和故事片《三峡好人》都在国际上获得了成功。

In 2006, he invited Jia Zhangke to record his sketching process in the Three Gorges and Thailand. The resulting documentary “East” and the feature film “The Three Gorges Good Man” have all achieved international success.
