江阴市华西村,面积0.96平方公里,350户人家,1479人。在党的领导下,华西人经过30多年的战天斗地,艰苦创业,使过去曾是“十年倒有九年荒,有女不嫁华西郎”的贫穷村庄,基本实现了农村现代化。到1995年,全村完成工业总产值20.16亿元,利税2亿多元。该村目前已建成了农田设施化,耕作机械化,经营规模化的现代农业格局;具有现代水平的规模经营的黑色冶金、有色金属、化工、纺织、轻工、建材工业体系;80％的农户住进了水电气配套的农民新村,30％的农户拥有家庭轿车,形成了医疗保险、老年供养的社会保障体系。人均集体资产达到近百万元,成了闻名全国的富裕村。
