冻结法凿井工艺的关键是冻结壁厚度的设计,冻结壁厚度主要与冲积层结构、逐层物理性质、冲积层深度、地压及井简直径等密切相关;施工中的冻结孔实际分布、盐水温度、凿砌段高等因素直接影响冻结壁的变形程度,其中时间因素又特别重要,因而冻结壁设计中力学分析非常复杂。虽然百余年来,冻结壁的研究工作在理论分析、现场测试和模拟试验方面做了大量工作,但深井冻结壁设计仍较困难,国内外已有多种公式计算,差别甚大,无所适从。
