The twentieth century in China, is an extraordinary century. In the meantime, social changes, political fluctuations, academic prosperity, I am afraid, are not like any century in the past. As far as the process of Chinese academic thought is concerned, it goes beyond other historical stages. It stands at the intersection of China and the outside world, permeates both Chinese and Western cultures, embraces history and breeds the future. Under the encouragement of the historical turntable, many ancient disciplines are gradually forming and many new humanities schools emerge as the times require so that the academic treasure of China will become increasingly plump. As the preface to the “Dictionary of Chinese Academic Essentials in the Twentieth Century” refers to, this is “the century where Chinese academic thoughts are conceived, cleaned up, constructed and carried forward under the joint efforts of external shocks and internal changes.” So, sort it out
