吾们向来知道大自然中有氮与碳的两大循环。氮在空气中占到五分之一体积,与氢化合成氨后,再成硝酸盐而为植物所吸收,在其体内构成蛋白质以供动物营养;蛋白质分解,氮又被放出而存于空气内。碳常与氧化合成二氧化碳,存在于空气内,亦不绝被植物所吸收,然后在其体内构成淀粉质,以供动物营养。淀粉质在动物体内被消化后,复放出二氧化碳于空气内,而继续其循环。故氮与碳二大循环,乃人类及一切动植物的生存要素,这种理论,虽在科学研究发达到现在这样的地步,却
