India produces four major silk products: mulberry silk, tussah silk, ramie silk and Mongolian silk (Indian silk). India is the world’s second largest mulberry silk producer. Its mulberry silk production is second only to China, about 14,400 tons, accounting for 14% of the total production of raw silk in the world. In addition, India also dominates the production of Mongolian wild silk. At present, India estimates that there are 200,000 silk spun ingots, but most of them are distributed in small-scale production enterprises. Judging from the possession of silk looms, manual looms account for 227,000 units and 34,500 electric looms. India’s mulberry silk production is steadily rising at an annual rate of 6.4% from 969 tons in 1950 to 1951 to 14,000 tons in 1993–94. In addition, the output of silkworm waste silk and silkworm cocoon reached 4,667 tons in 1993-1994 and
