杂交条纹石鮨是60年代中期用条纹石鮨(Morone saxatilis)为母本和白鲈(M.ohrysops)为父本在美国南卡罗里来州第一次杂交成功的。该杂交鱼经过一定时期的短期人工驯化,可由肉食性转食人工饲料,其生长迅速,养殖成本较低。杂交条纹石鮨母本条纹石鮨在1992年由我国深圳引入进行池塘养殖,经养殖实践证明,具有较好的养殖前景。在美国,杂交条纹石鮨的养殖表明,该鱼很适合于池塘饲养和水库放流养
