Education is a business for the future. It is now in the 1990s. In a few years, it will enter the 21st century. What are the main characteristics of our country’s mathematics education in the new century? This paper intends to proceed from the characteristics of mathematics science and make some shallow discussions on the characteristics of mathematics education in middle schools in the new century in China. First, “education for further education” has been completely transformed into “quality education”. In the old ideas of mathematical education, mathematics can only be given to students with special abilities - “talents.” The mathematics education ideology plays the role of “siemens”—“selection and elimination of inferiority,” while mathematics teaching in middle school is aimed at progression and entrance examinations.
