The flowering mechanism of plants is a basic problem in biology. Many studies have been carried out for many years and a great deal of facts have been accumulated. However, the mechanism of flowering remains unclear. Therefore, while using the original experimental system, it is necessary to find more simple, easy to analyze experimental system. Jullien et al reported that in vitro cultured soybean cotyledons directly produce flower buds. In the process of establishing an experimental system in which the cucumber cotyledons were directly cultured in vitro to form the male or female flowers, we found that the flower buds can also be formed directly on the cotyledon nodes of cucumber seedlings after removing the top buds. This phenomenon may be used to further study the relationship between vegetative organs and flower initiation and other issues
